With over four decades practicing medicine as a pediatrician Dr. Saad Saad has performed thousands of surgeries. During this time the doctor found ways where he could use innovation to invent two new devices that would not only be safer for patients, but make doctors jobs way easier.
Patent number 5,725,478 helps improve the use of endoscopes. This device allows doctors to look inside a patient’s body without having to do surgery or body scan. With the use of an endoscope doctors can see inside the colon, throat, stomach, bladder, and even windpipe to detect possible problems. The only problem is that because the body is full of fluids the endoscope gets fogged up and cannot do its job. They have to remove it and then insert a suction device to remove the fluid, then reinsert the endoscope. In the time-staking process the doctor loses sight of where they last left off with the endoscope, making the whole process inefficient and challenging. Luckily Dr. Saad Saad created a device where the suction device is attached to the endoscope so physicians don’t lose eye sight of their last spot. Not only has this amazing device has been a very successful tool, but it is practical and very cheap to manufacture. Dr. Saad Saad uses his invention himself and praises how well it works.
The other device that the doctor invented help locates catheters in patients bodies. Catheters are important to help drain fluids, gases, provide access to surgical instruments, and so much more. They treat medical conditions and aid surgery. There are temporary catheters and permanent ones. Regardless, when inserted in the body they have methods to located these devices. One method used is an MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which can be very impractical. They are not portable because they are so large. This poses a huge problem and makes it an inefficient in many circumstances. The other way to locate catheters is to do an X-ray, which exposes patients to low doses to radiation repeatedly. Dr. Saad Saad created a safe and effective way with his electromagnetic location identification device. This incredible device works by one internal device and external device using magnetic force to find each other. When they do the external one lights up making it simple, safe, and effective.
